Hitachi SuperJ Applications Environment Ecosystem for the OSGi Service Platform
The market for applications operating on mobile communications networks is going strong, as demonstrated by the many apps available for the Android and iPhone devices. Now a new generation of applications delivery platform is gaining momentum, operating on wireline or wireless networks - or both - and featuring compelling applications that provide utility in the home, from media sharing (photos, video, music) to home monitoring. Hitachi's SuperJ Applications Environment simplifies the task of bringing apps to market.
The objective is to provide useful and entertaining applications that operate via subscribers' home gateways, telephones (fixed and mobile) and other devices such as plug computers. Plug computers can add significant value to home applications, performing specific tasks related to the application, including processing and data storage, connectivity to other devices in the home, and access to the Internet and remote servers and storage facilities. Plug computers greatly enhance the capabilities of certain in-home applications for a modest cost.
The Hitachi SuperJ Applications Environment enables developers to design applications and services that can be brought to market quickly and subsequently updated "on the fly" without affecting the subscriber device. At the core of this applications environment is the OSGi Service Platform, a set of standards developed and published by the OSGi Alliance (www.osgi.org). Hitachi is a founding member of the OSGi Alliance and one of only a few vendors with an OSGi Alliance certified product. The Hitachi SuperJ Applications Environment is a full "Ecosystem" that supports the development and management of components for the remotely located management/apps server as well as for devices in the home or business (customer premises equipment/CPE).
