not keeping the date and time anymore

My plug is no longer keeping the date and time after the last night thunder storm.
After boot is showing Tue Sep 10 16:32:17 PST 1929
Changing the date works fine until the next reboot.

I assume that the RTC got fried or the internal backup battery got drained.
Or is it possible to get wrong info from the NTP servers ?

The NTP daemon by default is unwilling to step your clock more than about 15 minutes IIRC, though ntpdate will (but you should only run that by hand).

So it sounds like your RTC battery (or more) is dead to me.
