Billy, please open a shell in the installer and look at /var/log/syslog to see what's going on: e.g.: tail -n 100 /var/log/syslog | more
Any obvious problem in there? If not, copy the whole syslog file and send it to me at tbm@cyrius.com

This is probably because the date on your machine is wrong (Sep 10). Although I wonder why this is the case because the installer should run rdate before installing.
Can you search /var/log/syslog for rdate?

there are a lot "package not found" and "I/O errors" (at the end).. could this be a sd card related problem? it's a Maxflash 8Gb SDHC Class 6 card.. thanks for any advices! //EDIT: I also tried to use only 4Gb for the installation, but that didn't work as well..

Hmm, certainly looks like a problem with the SD card to me. Can you try with a USB stick?

Hi TBM just a feedback regarding my Sheevaplug not working with Debian installer. This sheevaplug has got a defect and I reshipped it to NewIt.
Thus I cannot investigate my problem with debian installer at the moment. Hopefully the new one will run without any problems.
Thanks for yor help.

hey tbm, i formatted the sd card with windows (fat32) and put it full of data, to check if the sd card is broken.. there where no errors and also chkdsk gave no errors. i tried it again and it failed again. i will now try to install on an usb drive. any other idea how to check if it is the sd card or maybe if the sd card reader inside is broken? i think i have to buy another sd card tomorrow.. //EDIT: Installing on usb thumb drive worked like a charm.. so it must be the sd card or the sd card reader

genix: could you try to write data to the SD card with the Ubuntu that comes with the SheevaPlug to see if that works?

i bought a 4Gb SD card today and I currently try to install debian on that one. Installation is at 64% and it looks good so far. i will try to fill up the 8Gb card with random data after the installation is done...or failed one more question: is it possible to update the kernel with an image from http://sheeva.with-linux.com/sheeva/? originally these are for the shipped ubuntu version. or do you have a better location to get new kernels from? thanks for all the help. //EDIT1: installation on the 4Gb card worked perfectly... i will now try to fill the other sd card with random data..

Hi, I recived my second SheevaPlug today from NewIt. The first one was directly from Globalscale an I installed the debian with the tar-file from Martins internet page. This Plug works like a charme. Today I tried to install the second Plug with the new Debian installer from Martin. It starts okay with a Sandisk 4GB SDHC card (Ultra II). But there are the same problem with the installer. It dies on installing busybox. The same problem with an second SD card (4 GB Sandisk Extreme III). When I check the syslog file I find also an uncorrect date - 02.12.1931 and there are many fails with time stamps. I tried to set the clock with the menu item from the Debian installer but the problems will going on. I've checked the date but there is the old date (02.12.1931). tail -n /var/log/syslog Dec 2 02:44:45 debootstrap: Starting enhanced syslogd: rsyslogd Dec 2 02:44:45 debootstrap: Dec 2 02:44:45 debootstrap: Warning: Fake start-stop-daemon called, doing nothing Dec 2 02:44:45 debootstrap: . Hello everyone, does anybody have any idea what could cause my problem caused in this post: http://plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=866.0? The installation routine went fine and Debian runs from SD-card, but I still cannot use the USB port when the Kernel started. Any suggestions, I welcome anything. Thank you, StarFishes
