Night Downloader [UPDATE]

Hii all,

I'm new to the Sheeva thing and it took me couple of days to test, ruin, recover and update the Sheeva.
So now it's running Ubuntu 9.04 from USB HDD with 160GB.

My goal is to make Sheeva as a small home media server.
With ability to store shared things.
I download a lot from Rapidshare, and I want to free my computers from being powered on late night downloading stuff.


To the point - I'm searching for:

• Web-GUI downloader
• HTTP links (Rapidshare, etc.)
• Nice & easy GUI

(Option to torrents will be nice).

you might want to look at wTorrent, which is a web frontend to rTorrent..

There is a web based frontend for wget here:

http://irodov.nm.ru/wget4web/index.htm

I haven't used it personally, and don't know what other alternatives there are.  But it does look like it will do the job.

Can wTorrent download regular HTTP links?
Do any of them knows to download in multisession mode?

I have my Plug running transmission-daemon, this torrent client is fast and has a slick web GUI, try it out.

transmission supports both torrent file upload from your PC and URL

But I download non-torrents links.

Call it cheating if you want, but with my first plug..... after bricking it a good dozen or so times times,  I ended up installing Webmin (http://webmin.com/) on it.

It's pretty slick and does what I need it to do. It has a feature in the base install that allows you to download files on a schedule. I haven't tried this particular feature yet, but it seems pretty straight forward.

WOW I'm exhausted from searching.
There is nothing there that fit my needs.


So lets lower my requirments:

• CLI Download manager
• With ability to download complex links (Rapidshare w/ username and password)
• I could pause/resume the downloads

Even lib will be enough.
So I could try to write some GUI for it.

This won't work with form and cookie based authentication. For this you can write a twill (http://twill.idyll.org/) script. Damn flexible. or run you own using python and urllib2.

I mean the libcurl + Qt interface for some kind of smart and simple DM.

Do you know if any of them supports these?

• Multi-session download
• Speed limiter

Could you try JDownloader?

It uses Java, but i don't know if it will work correctly under OpenJDK. I would be very interested if you could try to run it and write here your results.

I've tried it some time ago... but I can't remember any good results.
It's quite crap program, even under standard PC it's too much have, and just don't do the work.


Meanwhile I'm writing my own simple downloader based on Qt + libcurl.
Hope to update with good results.

A quick question to google about rapidshare downloader cli returns:
plowshare
plowshare is a command-line downloader/uploader for some of the most popular file-sharing websites. It works on UNIX-like systems and presently supports Megaupload, Rapidshare, 2Shared, 4Shared, ZShare, Badongo, DepositFiles and Mediafire. Refer to the README for more info.

aria2c
aria2 is a lightweight  multi-protocol & multi-source, cross platform download  utility operated in command-line. It supports HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, BitTorrent and Metalink.
aria2 has built-in XML-RPC interface. You can manipulate aria2 via XML-RPC interface.
aria2 runs on Linux, FreeBSD, Mac OS X and Windows.

grapid
gRapid allows premium users of RapidShare to automate downloading of files without having to attend to them. It relies on Java and GNU Wget to process downloads from a file containing Rapidshare links, one on each line. It can perform simultaneous downloads of any number you may desire

slimrat
Slimrat is a command-line and graphical application for automated downloading from file hosters like Rapidshare, Megaupload, Depositfiles and many more. The current version is 0.9.5.5, which is a bugfix release.

I've never tested any of them but one of them just might suit your needs. Cheers!
