Running mail server on SheevaPlug

Hi, I want to collect mail from my ISP via POP3, store it on my big USB HDD, that Sheeva has plugged into it, then I want to be able to access than mail via IMAP from several PC's on my LAN.
I am looking at dovecot and fetchmail, but having major problems getting anything working. Just to complicate things, obviously with Sheevaplug, the mail can't live in the users home directory and the /var/spool/mail is also not good. need everything stored on my mounted USB drive.
I also need to import aload of emails from mbox format into this system.. (not asking much..)
Anyone used dovecot (or anything else) on Sheevplug for this purpose? Any help tips/sample configs.Wiki page/links would be MUCH appreciated...

...and the /var/spool/mail is also not good.
...but can be made a symlink to a place that is good, if you're using pre-compiled code.
