Linux USB RAID monitoring

Hi, I have a Western Digital MyBook Mirror (RAID1).  It's a USB2 device, there is a Windows utility to monitor the RAID status, but nothing for Linux, let alone ARM Linux.

Anyone know how I can monitor the status of the RAID array, so I can tell if one of the mirror drives needs replacement?

you can first look at /proc/mdstat to see the RAID status and also use mdadm utility to see more information regarding the RAID and manipulate it if you like

I don't have a /proc/mdstat

Does this work for USB mirrored arrays, or just local IDE/SCSI ones?   I was under the impression the mirroring was done invisibly by the chipset in the USB enclosure, so I don't see how this can tie up with the /proc/mdstat.
