Windows Putty hangs when using vi

I am connecting to my plug using windows and putty thru the serial/usb emulator. It works fine until I start up vi. Then it tends to hang the putty session. The "fix" has been to close the putty window, then start up an new terminal. HAs anyone else seen this, and is there a fix?
Thanks

I have had similar issues with vi connecting to other servers when using vi- I don't think it is a problem specific to the plug.
At least for me, its not really freezing, just normal keypresses are not consistently updated. To double check hit esc a few times and try to type :q! And see if you get back to your terminal

Or try vim instead of vi. I sometimes have issues with keystrokes not being interpreted right by vi, while vim is fine. If it's not installed yet, do apt-get install vim.
