tinyproxy: Could not create the pool of children

I get the following when I run tinyproxy: Could not create the pool of children

various posts on the net say enable shared memory in the kernel, etc.  I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 on the sheevaplug.  Any ideas?

root@debian:~# sysctl -a | grep shmmax
error: permission denied on key 'net.ipv4.route.flush'
kernel.shmmax = 33554432

(the above matches the size I see on my desktop system)

Hi Cliff, did you ever find a solution to this?

I have exactly the same error. Priviliges and space seems to be sufficient.

I hope compiling the source itself will solve it and will try that now.

Well, as expected, compiling from source didn't work.

Could anyone out there try to install tinyproxy by issuing these commands?

apt-get install tinyproxy
service tinyprox start
ps -ef | grep tiny                    -> should display some tinyproxy processes

You can remove tinyproxy using apt-get remove tinyproxy

Well, on Debian is working fine.
I have 11 processes listed in ps -ef, and as well the command

netstat -l -t -4

show the port configured for tinyproxy as well.

I have not used in particular tiny..., I have used polipo and squid on my Sheeva without any issues...

Thanks for that, Polipo worked immediately.
All i want is a lightweight personal proxy, I hope that Polipo will fit that bill.
Maybe I will install Debian as well as Ubuntu can not be upgraded to 9.10 apparently.
