I was trying to update my plug using alpha-6 installer.
everything works alright until it boots from a USB stick or SD card.

any advice?

Code:
USB 0: host mode
PEX 0: interface detected no Link.
Net:   egiga0 [PRIME], egiga1
Hit any key to stop autoboot:  0

NAND read: device 0 offset 0x100000, size 0x400000

Reading data from 0x4ff800 -- 100% complete.
 4194304 bytes read: OK

Sevi, it's hard to understand exactly what point you are talking about in your post.  Does this failure occur during the install sequence, immediately after you receive the "****   U-boot should be up and running now. Open your console ..." message from the installer?  The first thing you should see at this point is the Uboot splash screen, followed by
Code:
USB 0: host mode
PEX 0: interface detected no Link.
Net:   egiga0 [PRIME], egiga1
Hit any key to stop autoboot:  0
Saving Environment to NAND...
Erasing Nand...Writing to Nand... done
followed by a reset and an attempt to boot from a USB storage device.  However, it looks like it is attempting to do a normal boot from NAND for you.

Or, is this what you get after you have completed the install and try to boot at that point?

You need to provide more details.  For starters, does your Uboot have a March date on it, or a May 13th date?

The installer installs the uboot and rootfs to the internal NAND flash, you can place your rootfs on USB/SD and still use the uImage from NAND.
Have you changed the default RAM load address ?
Post your uboot environments so we can help you.

Here are my steps:

Step #1:
Downloaded alpha-6 installer and setup it.

Step #2:
Formate USB stick in FAT32 on my Windiws XP machine and wrote all files from from directory "installer"  (alpha-6 installer) to the USB stick.

Step #3:
moved USB stick from Windows computer to ShevaPlug.

Step #4:
I run ./runme.sh from my Ubuntu computer.
Eveything looked alright.

Code:
root@stockalerts:/tmp/installer/sheevaplug-installer-alpha-6# ./runme.sh

I think that the reason might be because you had bare FAT32 on the usb stick without partitions.
This is what most of the USB sticks are shipped with.

I'm attaching a patch for U-Boot this fixes this.
It will be included in the next version of the installer.

This is great, as I have the same issue, but could you please advise, how do I use the patch?  Kiss Thanks.

This is a patch for u-boot. You need to get the sources and patch them with this patch.

Grin Oops.  Roll Eyes I should have known better.

At least all is not lost. I did manage to get another USB stick to "take". Thanks for your response.
