Backup to Amazon S3

Hi,

I have moved my photos from my home HP NAS to the plug+USB HDD and wanted to sync straight from the plug, so I tried several options (like FUSE s3fs and s3sync) but the one that worked for me is a Ruby based scripts (s3sync).

I use Ubuntu and 2.6.30, you will need to install ruby and libopenssl-ruby. I`m getting ~20KBps upload and more than 35KBps download.
It is much less than the Amazon Jungle application throughput.

Can you please explain more in detail how exactly did you sync your data.
As I understand, the source of your data is in your USB drive attached to the plug. Then you used s3sync to syn your source to Amazon
Did you use fstab ?
Can you explain step - by - step guide on what and how?

Hi,

Well basically I added a USB disk to the plug and added it to the fstab to be mounted on bootup.
Next step was to follow the step by step description given by the link I posted in my previous post.

Get an AWS account in Amazon and then create a bucket and off you go, just look @ the examples there are in the web page I posted and I think you will get the hang of it.

I wanted to do a step by step but this guy did it already...
