There's mention in the docs of some Lauterbach thing, but I'm not understanding the specifics. Would someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I believe this is mentioned in the SheevaPlug Development Kit - Writing Jaunty Filesystem on the NAND flash (page 6)
The command is
Marvell>> bubt u-boot-rd88f6281Sheevaplug_400db_nand.bin

I see, thank you! Now, how about if one manages to mess up the u-Boot? That Lauterbach thing looks commercial. I wonder if this is where the new "USB Recovery" image comes in to play...

There is an openocd (open source project) support for the plug.
The connectivity is simply using the same usb cable.
I haven't seen a wiki explaining how; but I know people have already tried it (timtim on #openplug IRC channel at freenode).

Awesome. I'm planning on putting the latest u-Boot on mine when it arrives, and wanted to be prepared for when I do something goofy and brick it.

Latest U-boot(the one you can download upstream) doesn't support the plug, for now.

I have been using OpenOCD for running u-boot from DRAM on other boards. But on Sheevaplug, even when I follow all the steps given at
http://www.openplug.org/plugwiki/index.php/Setting_Up_OpenOCD_Under_Linux#Example_2:_Reflashing_a_Bricked_U-Boot_.28Method_1.29
as they are, I am unable to get new u-boot prompt on the console. The console sort of hangs, and does not come up even after I issue the "reset" command from the openocd telnet session.
Can anyone tell me what may be the problem?
