Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knows how to read the serial number on Sheeva - the same one, which is noted on the box?

Thanks!

Hi

Would be interesting to know why you need the serial number... Smiley
Maybe there are other solutions for your problem?

It would be used as a unique identifier of the device in front of a backend system, e.g.:
 - the consumer purchases a plug with a certain product pre-installed on it
 - when the plug is installed at home, the software connects to a backend system and performs auto-registration and initial provisioning; uses the S/N as an identifier
 - previously, upon purchase (at the store), a user profile has been created and the user id has been associated with the S/N of the device

This is the scenario roughly. I know that LAN MAC can be used instead as it is also visible on the box, but S/N would be nicer.

Hi,

Do not use the MAC address, as it's possible to change it easily.

Hi

Must be something which cant be changed then... I dont really know where that could be stored, since it is possible to change quite everything, even uboot...

Maybe like when using an usb-dongle, it would be a possibility to have an encrypted key somewhere.

I found out that the serial num resides in the eFuse registers, but I still don't have a clue on how to read them
