How to change Transmission path?

After installing Transmission, I tried to download a torrent and it worked fine.  It was saved to the default directory /var/lib/transmission-daemon/downloads.

Since my GP+ storage is only 512MB, I would like to change that path to either the USB or microSD.  This is where my problem starts.

To change the path, I would stop the daemon first and edit /etc/transmission-daemon/settins.json to my USB drive (/media/usb0/downloads).  When I try to download a torrent, I get a message what says, "Error: Permission denied (/media/usb0/downloads/..."

Now, I've noticed that to allow transmission to write on the that directory, I have to change the owner and group to debian-transmission.  Can I do this if my USB is formatted as FAT?  Or do I have to reformat my USB drive to ext3 or something?

FATs doesn`t have Permissions ( user rights )

I`ve made transmission download to mnt/share with any type of format and not had a problem.
what is the user rights / Permissions is on the (/media and /media/usb0/downloads) folders ?

Peter, thank you for replying.  I will get back to your question in 2 to 3 weeks because I'm sending my GP+ back to GlobalScale.  They agreed to replace my GP+ with Std.  I can't stand the noise coming from the fan.  It's too loud.  I will try again when I get my new GP Std.

I wouldn`t be able to cope with it having a fan !!!!
The whole point of my plug is that it`s got to be, no noise , low power use.

Yeah, the noise is unbearable.  It feels like it's sucking electricity from your outlet much like a hair blower.  I have a small room and would like to keep it quiet.  I'm glad they let me return it in exchange for GP Std.
