Hi all,
I've got my first SheevaPlug on its way from the new IT folks. I've read a lot about the power issues and *think* I may have a possible solution to test on my new plug.
Basically, from photos (
http://computingplugs.com/index.php/Opening_the_box_and_first_boot) it looks like the Sheeva mainboard uses a floppy drive style power connector (officially called a Berg connector). If so, it should be possible to use a usb -> Molex cable and change the molex connecter out for a Berg connector.
Would you say that this is correct? If so, you can but USB -> Molex connectors, or make one (
http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=89344). The only difference would be instead of using a standard molex plug, you use the Berg one, which has the same pin layout (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Berg_connector).
The main difference would be the pin layout WOULD need to be modified to work on the Sheeva.
From this image (
http://computingplugs.com/index.php/File:J3.jpg) you can see the layout that needs to be used.
I'll have to have a play around when I get mine, but if anyones tried this or found a flaw here please do post!
