Hi
I have ordered a pair of Sheevaplugs and have joined the forums in order to pick up some tips'n'tricks.
My intention is to load Debian onto these bad boys and install it onto either a SD(HC) card or a USB stick. Scanning the forums I see people have problems with both and thus I am requesting information from someone who has positive experiences with this.
To be more specific, I'd like to have the manufacture and model name so I can make an informed decision on what to purchase.

for USB while I had a couple of problems, those are related to power and not the USB itself, I had luck with kingston datatraveler 101.
As of SD, I had really bad luck, the ones I've seen working are SD full size (not microSD with adapter) from SanDisk, I haven't had any luck with Kingston SD (any model)

I know this is not a usb stick, but I'm using a western digital my passport essential 320G external 2.5" harddrive (WDME3200TN). The drive is plug directly into the sheeva.
No problems for about a month of active use.

I'm using a Transcend 8GB SD card. Works fine as the root file system.

have tried an unused MP3 player (512MB), doesnt work well (read error)
using now an Sandisk 4G (class 2) and dont have any Prob. yet.

Thank you for your replies, sharing your experiences.
It seems Sandisk would be a fairly safe bet to go with. The harddrive is not completely uninteresting either, but my initial setup is likely to consist of a thumbdrive or SD card for booting/system and then a network share of sorts for storage.

That is just sick... I bought my 16G sdhc card for over $100 and it wasn't really all that long ago (~1yr).  Sometimes this hobby kills me. |

I have the same card (Patriot 16GB) and it's crap. The SanDisk is working fine. So YMMV. |

As an aside, I bought a sandisk ultra II ... they were on sale, so got it for $15aud . It folds in half to be a usb port. Trying to use it now to install the distro on.

A-DATA Class 6 TurboSD SDHC 16G appears to be resulting in a corrupted file system with ext2. Been using it in my Asus eeepc 701 for about a year now with no problems.
Currently running the OS on OCZ Diesel 16GB Single Channel Flash Drive Model OCZUSBDSL16G and appears to be alright. Had a few problems during boot initially but was fine the last few reboots.
Will have to snag another SD soon.

I've tried both a micro and a regular 2GB Sandisk card. And neither works. Not with the latest kernel nor the one built in, it always says mmc0: error -110 whilst initialising SD card. |

I also use a 8GB Transcend SDHC Class6 as root-system without any problems. Additionally therefore I did use a 4GB OCZ Rally USB-Stick as root-system with no problems. |
