i have just flashed the new kernel:
habe problem with ethernet :
mac adr as firmware-output:  00:00:00:EE:51:81
mac adr from ifconfig: 00:50:43:7a:2f:08
 (it's named eth2 instead of eth0)
both are wrong.
i dont really understand what's the clue here.

another error:
Starting automounter: loading autofs4 kernel module,FATAL: Module autofs4 not found

With regards to the eth issue.  I'm not sure why it's coming up as eth2.  And I'm not sure what you mean by both are wrong.  Those eth addresses look pretty normal.

do a "find /lib/modules -name autofs4.ko".  If it doesn't locate autofs4.ko, then it would appear you may have installed the kernel without reinstalling the modules.  If that is the case, just rerun README... make sure you delete the old sheeva-* files before running README...

i mean they are both not the mac-adr of the device, which was correct before flashing and  i dont understand why dmesg/ifconfig and uboot gives diffrerent mac-addresses, that means if i try to reset mac-addr from u-boot, ifconfig wouldnt help the os to have the correct mac-addr.


 

update:
remove /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and i get eth0 again

no change in mac-addr.

Couple things.....

When you get an opportunity to rebuild, could you add the NAT modules too ?  I see iptables support is in there (great!!!) but the nat stuff is defined as disabled.  Might as well have a full suite of tools in the toolbox if possible.

Secondly, would it be possible to indicate a version of 2.6.30-rc7 in the filenames or readme filename etc ?  You've been through quite a number of revs of the same kernel version, but it's not self-evident from the kernel strings nor filename which rev is on the server (it's always the latest of course, but is that the first or the 12th variant of the same kernel rev you've built?).

Recompiling and making the kernels available for us all is much appreciated.  Thanks !

Nat modules are now included in RC8.

would it be possible to indicate a version

There is now a tag file in the directory that indicates the version.

Hi;

This is a quick note on the eth0=>eth2 mapping by udev mentioned
earlier in the thread.  One can also see this pop-up when making your
own JFFS2 or UBIFS flash image.

If udev sees another MAC (ie., the "third" one), you get eth2
generated.  :-) So, if you flash with a system with two entries
from your NFS generated UBIFS or JFFS2 onto another system, udev
will see a different MAC and happily give you another entry in udev.

To change, one can just change the udev mapping manually to match
your newly flashed system MAC address (ie., remove old entries) or
get rid of the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file
and let udev generate new ones!
