When booting the sheeva hangs for about 15-20 seconds while it is booting, then prints:

VFS: Mounted root (jffs2 filesystem) on device 31:1.

Is jffs2 that slow to mount? Any tips to improve this?

iirc this was related to an error-check of your nand-partition due to an unclean shutdown.

Yeah, but jffs2 is slow to mount, you can change your root to UBIFS, for that follow the wiki:

Dirty its a bit slower, but in any way its slow.
