It shows USB0 and USB1 but both unable to.

Now ...

The 1.0 installer is jibberish to me, is there any website that holds my hand and completely explains every single thing I need to do when the blue lighty is not up and running; even videos would be fine.

For instance, I put the files from the installer folder on a usb stick, do I actually copy the folder itself or just the files and put them first place I see when opening frehsly formatted usb stick?

"run php /runme.php" but from where, how when why, if the usb stick is connected to the plug how do I get there?
I installed php5.cli or whatever was needed from what I could see but if Linux does not know where the file is ...

This is driving me insane up to the point that I'll just take a hammer and have 1 minute of fun after having spent days of total aggrevation from morning till evening and that in my holiday.

Did you try to reseat the usb-cable? The USB Port at the Sheeva is VERY unsteady and not every USB-Cable will
connect fine (not even the in the box delivery-cable).

Did you get message that your computer does recognize the conencted USB-Device (Msg in the shell in Linux/dmesg or the
great "BaBim"-Sound in Windows)

Could you see sheeva as FTDI-Devive in lsusb?

Reseating usb doesn't help, cable is sound, have tested 3 different ones until now, but issue started after trying to update Uboot, last thing I did was reset, after that ... nothing.
Device is listed in dmesg, sometimes as USB0 other times as 1.

Problem is that Uboot is screwed up, hardware works but if software is not starting/connecting ...

Don't know about lsusb, device is turned off now.

Only thing I need (for now) is a way to flash Uboot without having to resort to serial connection, I did get an SD card just before with a 1 on 1 copy of fs on NAND.

Am still looking for a decent description on how to do this.

Edit: Thought I'd found a solution @ http://www.plugcomputer.org/plugwiki/index.php/Das_U-boot_plug_support ... again ... use serial to ....

Edit2: ESIA does not recognise the device, obviously because U-boot is ***** up, started to have a look at the 1.0 installer again, 2 minutes and I closed everything, is there no one that can update the readme on this installer or , I'm not going to spend 2 weeks researching something that should take 5 minutes to cli

So now I switched over to Windows 7 system.
Installed drivers, plugged in serial and started Installer 1.0 after having put all files from the installer folder onto a usb stick and putting it in the usb connection on the Sheeva, then started runme.exe nand from command line.

Without seriell Connection to USB-Port you could only try to manually flash the u-boot via openocd from
the Linux Command-Line.

As netcat I did use telnet on Port 4444 (had to do this with my OpenRD, because my new U-boot
doesnt get the network port up).

openocd and the .cfg and -bin files should be in the same directory.

I did use openocd 0.3.1 in debian squeeze for that.

Installer ran, U-boot is working again !!!!! well, still busy copying but what worked was not on Wiki or anything like that grrrrrrrrr

Found a topic (on another computer so cannot link) onhere ...

It states you need to comment out lines 7, 8 and 43, 44 (put /* in beginning of line 7 and */ at the end of line 8, repeat for line 43 and 44) otherwise it will keep stopping with some stupid error in runme.php file and then run it with root account so most people would have to do "su passwd root" first, sudo will not work, after that, run it and it starts !!!!

on the Ubuntu computer searc for the file known_hosts and delete the line inside which is for the ip of your sheevaplug.

After deleting the line inside the file save it and try to connect again...

Reinstalled Debian Squeeze on SD card ... SAME THING, connection refused, deleted line in .ssh/known_hosts, ssh gets me 'connection refused' and serial gets me 'login failed', found a thread here stating DHCP - Static has something to do with it but I use DHCP...

One thing always gets me with this.  You appear to need to run openocd on the system that you are trying to flash.  But it's bricked, so how are you able to boot it to run anything?

That was one of my major issues with Sheeva plug, wherever you look, always 'connect to U-boot etc etc' when it is bricked ...
Still a lot to document as far as I can see.

Still not getting IP address, restarted all network devices, blue light burns, serial does show Debian login but that's it.

Just for future reference, Sony 2GB usb stick works as well as mmc 4GB Transcend ...
Seeing that there are so many remarks on usb sticks that don't work, there should be a list for this imo, same for mmc's, issues as well with U-boot/Debian.

fixed that one as well, now I can logon serial and Sheeva gets DHCP again, now for ssh

Turns out that Debian did not install openssh  so the guy that wrote the tutorial on how to install Debian should change this

]One thing always gets me with this.  You appear to need to run openocd on the system that you are trying to flash.  But it's bricked, so how are you able to boot it to run anything?

No  you didnt run opencd on the sheevaplug, but on another Linux-computer and the sheevaplug is connected to this computer as a USB-device.
So this should also work if the sheevaplug is bricked.

Thanks - it occurred to me later than I'd got the wrong idea about openocd and that it runs over the USB/JTag/ftdi interface - not directly to NAND...
I do have some questions about u-boot in general, though - but that's for later, once I sort out what I wish to know.

wonderful! I've been trying to unbrick my sheevaplug for ages!!!! obviously with no success....

I must say I agree with you when you say readmes and all the documentation about openOCD and installer-scripts stuff are way too much complicated and can't tell you what to do!!!

I'll give another try using your configuration with openocd and debian sqeeze....If you have any tips please do help me...

I gave up unbricking my sheeva but your story it's the proof that "it can be done!!"...
