sheevaplug as printserver

Hi.

I'm totally new to plug computing. Just got my sheevaplug yesterday - and already using it for squeezeserver and filesharing using samba (via precompiled image on sd card, multiboot). Very nice little gadget. :-)

However, I do have a Brother HL-2030 monocrome laserprinter with usb interface.

I installed cups via the webmin console - but I'm stuck now - I cannot find any printdrivers for the ARM architecture - they all seem to be for i386 - I guess that since i386 is part of the name.

Are there any way of getting my printer to work with the sheevaplug then?

Any help - or maybe good links are greatly appreciated.

Admittedly, I know little of CUPS, but can you use a generic PCL driver for ARM? Most laser printers understand PCL.

Along with cups, install cups-driver-gutenprint

apt-get install cups-driver-gutenprint

Now you have a lot of drivers. Log into cups from your browser to configure:

https://<your_plug_ip>:631

Now I'm able to see the Brother HL-2030 via remote interface - but sadly no driver fits - looking around people say that I could use HL-2060 driver which is listed. But that doesn't work when I tried printing a testpage.

Couldn't the printer just be added as a "raw" one? So I connect directly to it?

Well I did visit the openprinting site - but forgive me for my ignorance - I install this file locally on my windows pc? Or do I put it on the plug?

Got it working :-)

Brother DCP-1200 Foomatic/hl1250  driver worked for the HL-2030 - and I was able to get out testpage form CUPS remote interface though not very well formatted, but then I added the printer to my windows laptop as a networkprinter with https://<plugip>:631/Brother_HL-2030_series - and put in the windows driver ... and voila... It works as intended.

Did some searching on the net and found out that other are having trouble getting printing to work via ipp. Have any of you guys in here got CUPS to work with windows 7?

Solved!
I'll answer myself in case others have the same problem. I got it working by sharing the printer via Samba printershare - so now I can access the printer via \\<hostname>\Brother_.... very nice.
