I tried to install standard JRE 6 on my PlugComputer (runs ARMv5 Linux - Ubuntu 9.04) but it hangs after it starts extracting unzipped files. I tried several times, but the same things happens every time. Seems like it runs out of resources. Installation file is about 20MB, and the entire installation directory when it is finished is about 100MB. I have 280MB available so the storage space can't be the problem.

Did anybody have the similar problem installing JRE 6? Does anybody know what I am doing wrong? Please help

The java installer is a shell script with an embedded binary archive. You can read it and execute the steps manual.

You did download a java version for armv5, right?

I downloaded pretty much a universal JRE 6, not the one specifically for armv5. Is there a version of JRE 6 specifially for armv5? And where do I get it?

Thx

I was finally able to find a solution and just a quick feedback... I had to install Java SE Embedded, it's a version specifically designed for such devices with ARM architecture. Thx for your replies...

java programs are (most of the time) architecture neutral and can run anywhere, where java is. But java itself (the virtual machine) must be executed on a processor, so it is not architecture neutral.

I've just downloaded arm5 java from sun, my question are:

- Is it really free if you no selling product based on that java ?
- What is you experience with that java for arm5 ?
- Is it possible to run Jetty or Tomcat or any other java web servers ?
