I am totally stuck getting the USB virtual console running on Windows XP SP3 running on a Dell Latitude D630.  Essentially I never get to the part where Windows discovers the new hardware, so no opportunity to install the drivers I downloaded from plugcomputer.org.

Does it require some configuration on the sheevaplug first?  All the doc I have seen starts with the Windows side, so I don't expect so.

Any help greatly appreciated!  FYI I have read the various threads in this forum.  Of course I could still be overlooking something....

Which Plug do you have? SheevaPlug or GuruPlug?
On the SheevaPlug you could try another USB-Cable or make yourself sure that the USB-Connector at the USB-Miniport is fully inserted or try to secure the connection baholding it with your hand.
On my SheevaPlug the connector doesnt seat firm and get easily loose.

But when you got a conenction there is no need to configure the Sheeva additionally to be recognized
by the USB-Port of your Dell-Computer.

If you got a GuruPlug then you need the external JTAG/RS232/UART-Device and the small cables has to be seat very well to get a funtionally connection AND there is a Switch for (i think) UART OR RS232.

My cable is insertes at the UART Port, so it is switched to UART.

On the PC set your COM-Port to 115200 Baud 8 DataBits Parity None and 1 StopBit.
Flow-Control has to set to NONE (no Software or Hardware-Flow-Control)

That worked for me...

How about you?

Did you got a new Plug? Or a used one? Did you use the original USB-Cable or a cable which you already got?

It was the cable!  I've never had one of these fail on me before so I never suspected it, but when I swapped in a known working cable, it recognized it right away.  Thanks!
