Date-Time

I haven't looked carefully in the documention as to whether there is a stored clock setting, but I'm finding that between boots, if I do not set the date/time, I end up the base year 1948.   Somehow, I must have entered in the date format incorrectly (Gentoo) and have files now set for year 2016, I think those files having future timestamps is raising havoc and causing my system to suddenly reboot.

But what is actually run at boot time, /etc/rc.local or /etc/init.d/rc.local? I think it's the latter, based on making changes to the former to no effect!

Looks like /etc/init.d/rc.local runs /etc/rc.local...

be careful with the rc.local.  If you look a little higher in the file you'd see

insmod fat.ko
insmod vfat.ko

Then if you look at the serial output when the kernel boots, it complains that those modules cannot be loaded and the system stops processing the rest of rc.local.  So if you comment out those insmod lines, the system clock will be set to Jan 26, 2009.

I just removed the entire rc.local and used ntp.  The clocks on my sheeva plug is working fine.
