Has anyone had any luck getting Java compiled on Gentoo?

I've tried tons of different methods, I cant even get gcj (GCC 4.3 unmasked with USE="gcj") to compile Sad

Can you be a little more specific?  I haven't tackled that, yet.

What kernel are you using?  What version of Java?

Indeed, be more specific, also join #gentoo-java and #gentoo-embedded @ irc.freenode.net and you could get some more help Smiley

Have you tried building the IcedTea versions?

If nothing else there's a lot of work going on with the Zero/Shark version to keep ports fresh and a decent HotSpot for ARM.

I'm currently using Sun's 'embedded' JRE on Ubuntu on the plug, which works well, but I hope to be able to switch to the Zero/Shark JVM for some uses soon.

Xerxes built me a binary of the JDK that I have used with some success, see his site at:

http://labb.zafena.se/

In particular try:

http://labb.zafena.se/shark-testing/armv5/

and give some feedback!

Also maybe join the zero-dev mailing list at IcedTea: it's pretty low volume.

Here are the results of my attempt.  I visited http://labb.zafena.se/shark-testing/armv5/

and downloaded 5nov-j2sdk-image.tar.gz and gunzipped and tarred it.  Here's there error message I get when testing for the version:
Code:
plug 5nov-j2sdk-image # ./bin/javac -v
dl failure on line 696Error: failed /usr/local/src/j2sdktest/5nov-j2sdk-image/jre/lib/arm/server/libjvm.so, because /usr/lib/gcc/armv5tel-softfloat-linux-gnueabi/4.1.2/libstdc++.so.6: version `GLIBCXX_3.4.9' not found (required by /usr/local/src/j2sdktest/5nov-j2sdk-image/jre/lib/arm/server/libjvm.so)
plug 5nov-j2sdk-image #
plug 5nov-j2sdk-image # locate libstdc++.xo.6
plug 5nov-j2sdk-image #

I'm on Gentoo.

OK, sorry that didn't help.  Gentoo is a mystery to me...  I just about understand Debian/Ubuntu/RedHat!

But do try sending of of the guys on that project an email and see if they have any suggestions.
