As anyone had a play with using USB speaker with a Sheevaplug and Debian ?
I`ve just gone to the trouble of getting a powered Belkin hub , so now trying things out which wouldn`t work before , like my Logitech V10 speaker.
I`ve got them to work, but very crackly after playing a couple of wav files.

What's the CPU utilization when playing audio? Sheeva just might not be fast enough. Either that, or your hub or device are running in USB 1.0 or 1.1 mode which doesn't have enough bandwidth. Might check to see if it's actually running full-speed 2.0.

I think it`s some form of memory or driver problem myself .
I don`t think the cpu use is very much and it is running at usb 2 speeds . if I plug in the speakers for the first couple of files it works o.k, So it`s not that .

Are you using ALSA sound?
Or, how are you laying music though your speakers?
If you are getting crackle and using ALSA sounds, chances are that ALSA is doing bit rate conversion.
For me, I use mpd, I had to change /etc/mtd.conf to configure the ALSA sound device correctly:
audio_output { type "alsa" name "USB Audio" device "hw:1,0" format "44100:16:2" }
Hope that helps,
Doug
