Hi,
after some tries I have got running my USB HDD after adding a wait script to let the kernel detect the HDD. But now if I reboot, the drive didn't appear to be mounted.
The device node was /dev/sda6 at the last tests. Thus I added it into the fstab as follows:
/dev/sda6 /mnt/usb auto rw 0 0
But the node is not created after my last reboot. Also I didn't have lsusb to see if the drive will be listed.
I am using the stock linux distribution:
Linux debian 2.6.22.18 #1 Thu Mar 19 14:46:22 IST 2009 armv5tejl GNU/Linux
What else do I need to do to automate mounting my hdd at boot time and keep it reliable?
I plan to replace an existing server with mail, cvs and other services to save energy and only wake on lan the old hosts if I need to access them.
Also, what distro do you suggest for a openSuSE user?
My debian knowledge is not that much :-(

Now I have also tested if it would be the USB plug from my USB hub. Thinking there may be an electrical contact problem I tried fixing this by deforming the USB plug housing (not the one in sheeva). But I still have to try more than one to plug in the hub into the sheeva to get the HDD start spinning.
Has anyone else got these problems?
