I've heard that ver 1.3 has eSata capability. Is that right? Anyone know if that is the version Globalscale is currently shipping? OK, after looking further, I see that a hardware modification must be made on v1.3 to get eSata connected and working.

I've been using the NSLU2 (slug) for a few years and want to "upgrade" to the SheevaPlug. Maybe I should wait or pre-order the GuruPlug plus instead?

thx,
feffer

feffer,

I was also an NSLU2 user and my recommendation is that if you are ok to use it for two more months GuruPlug seems a better option than SheevaPlug. I am currently trying to install Debian on it using squeeze installer yet I do have some problems - hope to get this up and running soon.

regards,
Piotr

newit.co.uk is selling a sheevaplug wit esata port (they have an exclusive deal on this). Or wait for the guruplug (mid/end april) which will also contain the esata port (available again from newit.co.uk and from globalscale)

All Plugs (Sheeva, esata Sheeva, Guru) are using the same CPU. All of them are faster then a NSLU2.

There is an announcement for Shevaplug 3.0 with a faster CPU and integrated harddisk. But release dates are unknown.

Thx all, this helps. About time to make the leap. Decided to order the standard SheevaPlug and pre-order the GuruPlug plus. I think I can find uses for both, and if not a couple of family members will be interested.

All Plugs (Sheeva, esata Sheeva, Guru) are using the same CPU.

Not all!  The GuruPlug Display uses a different CPU.

Are they dispatching immediately or just accepting orders? On the site it says "Available for Pre-order, for delivery in April" however do you know something different to this?

Cheers.

I don`t think there is a comparison between the NSLU2 and the sheevaplug .
It`s like a house and a tent, a push bike and a car !!!!
You can do things with the sheevaplug, which you could only dream of on the NSLU2 .
I started with a NSLU2 , but found it too slow and limiting , so moved to a hacked Buffalo Linkstation Pro, which I have been using for the last 2 year as a low powered server to collect torrents etc.
I have only had my Sheevaplug less than a month, but so far I`m very pleased with it , for speed and what it will do .
I`m thinking about the GuruPlug plus, but I think I`ll wait until the version with video or Shevaplug 3.0 comes out.

p.s I didn`t know the GuruPlug had a different cpu

As far as I can tell, the display version has a different CPU.  The rest of them don't.
