Hi,

Loving the Sheevaplug, it's taken over the role of home server (file server, web server, squeezebox server, torrent client, etc) and doing a great job.

I'm having problems getting the audio to work on a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000, linky: http://www.google.com/search?q=Logitech+QuickCam+Pro+9000 .

The video is working great (was plug and play once I had worked out the vlc commandline), but the /dev/audiox device isn't being created when the camera is plugged in. The relevant part from /var/log/syslog is below. There's nothing else suspicious in the syslog.

The problem is the same whether it's plugged straight into the usb socket on the sheevaplug or onto a hub. A restart (I know, I know!) hasn't helped either.

Any ideas or suggestions on how to troubleshoot this further, please?

Regards, Ed.

Edit to add: running Jaunty 9.04 with all updates.

An error of -5 in these lines:
Quote
Feb 13 13:38:53 salt kernel: invalid HEADER
Feb 13 13:38:53 salt kernel: snd-usb-audio: probe of 1-1.4.1:1.0 failed with error -5
Feb 13 13:38:53 salt kernel: invalid HEADER
Feb 13 13:38:53 salt kernel: snd-usb-audio: probe of 1-1.4.1:1.1 failed with error -5
means and IO error occurred.
Code:
#define EIO 5 /* I/O error */
But I have no idea why.

It may mean your setup does not have the required drivers for the webcam audio.  I don't know if Jaunty 9.04 has the driver for this audio device or not.

You may need to change to a later version of Debian to get this support "out of the box".  Sorry, I just don't know. Sad

I think there is an usb problem with audio and video.

On my Debain 5.0 I can't get audio and video working together with an USB webcam Philips PCVC740K (ToUCam).
When I use audio (snd-usb-audio) the video is frozen. As the video motion detection software I use motion.
Driver is the old pwc driver for Philips webcams. The webcam only works great.

The same problem is when I plug in a USB soundcard. Also the video is frozen. Webcam and audio adapter works
on a other pc well also with an extra USB hub. The only thing who runs with the webcam there is an USB 1-Wire adapter.

The kernel I use is 2.6.30.

Thank you to you both for your posts. I have since installed Debian Testing (squeeze) but have exactly the same problem.

At this rate I'll be buying a new webcam.
