Can anyone help? I did have kernel 2.6.32, and i tried to update to 2.6.32.8 using README-2.6.32.8 from http://sheeva.with-linux.com/sheeva. i did the nand update and boot update which may have been my mistake.

It seemed to work, but told me to update my bootcmd or rename the kernal, so i renamed it from 2.6.32.8-uImage to just uImage (what was the name of my old kernel i believe) and backed up my old kernel.

Since then it wont boot, ive tried going back to my old uImage but it still wont work.

Here is my bootlog...

i'm pulling out your relevant uboot lines:

bootargs_console=console=ttyS0,115200
bootargs_root=root=/dev/mtdblock2 ro
bootcmd_mmc=mmcinit; ext2load mmc 0 0x01100000 /uInitrd; ext2load mmc 0 0x00800000 /uImage
bootcmd=setenv bootargs $(bootargs_console) $(bootargs_root); run bootcmd_mmc; bootm 0x00800000 0x01100000

here is a link dealing with a similar situation for reference.

two things jump out at me immediately:

1) your bootargs_root is pointing to nand, not your sdcard, as the rest of your environment indicates.
2) the sheeva.with-linux.com kernels only have a uImage, so the uInitrd reference should be removed from bootcmd_mmc and bootcmd's bootm section.

resolving point 1 should get you booting with 2.6.32-trunk-kirkwood. to move to the sheeva.with-linux.com kernel you'll need to address point 2.

Thanks very much for your help Smiley

couldnt get it working at first, but then noticed that my root parition was ext3 and not ext2 so i need to address that as well i believe, as i dont think ext3 is good for sd cards?

again i thank you for your help. i searched away but could not found what you pointed out.

i really dont understand the uboot lines, now i guess i understand a little more Smiley

thanks again.

not a problem; i found dealing with uboot a little daunting at first.

check out this post for info about downgrading ext3 and the wiki for some uboot info.

from what i understand, the journaling in ext3 isn't really good for limited write flash devices.

glad i could help.
