I've been trying to install postfix onto my SheevaPlug but getting the following error consistently in spite of anything  and everything I've found by googling the problem:
plug:~# apt-get install postfix

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  postfix ssl-cert

I declined.

after the following commands: (suggested at http://changelog.complete.org/archives/496-how-to-solve-the-following-packages-cannot-be-authenticated)
apt-get install debian-archive-keyring
apt-get update
I got the following error:
W: Failed to fetch http://ftp.egr.msu.edu/debian/dists/squeeze/main/i18n/Transla
tion-en_US.lzma  Temporary failure resolving 'ftp.egr.msu.edu'

W: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used
 instead.

Can someone suggest what needs to be done?
thanks in advance

What exactly have you tried?

How about delete the contents of /var/lib/apt/lists/partial then apt-get clean && apt-get update

Thanks for the reply:
I did as you suggested but still no success.
Here's the output:

plug:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial# mv * ~/partial/  #just in case I needed them back:-)
plug:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial# ls
plug:/var/lib/apt/lists/partial# apt-get clean && apt-get update

My /etc/apt/sources.list has not been changed since installation and looks as shown above.

Something else that may be relevant is the following:
plug:/var/log# ping http://www.debian.org/mirror/list
ping: unknown host http://www.debian.org/mirror/list
plug:/var/log#

I've not noticed any other difficulty resolving URLs.

thanks again

I've done a little more trouble shooting:

On another debian box I have, I successfully did
Code:
gpg --keyserver pgpkeys.mit.edu --recv-key  9AA38DCD55BE302B
gpg -a --export 9AA38DCD55BE302B | sudo apt-key add -
and after that I was able to apt-get update && apt-get upgrade
but on the SheevaPlug:
Code:
plug:~# gpg --keyserver pgpkeys.mit.edu --recv-key  9AA38DCD55BE302B
gpg: requesting key 55BE302B from hkp server pgpkeys.mit.edu
?: pgpkeys.mit.edu: Host not found
gpgkeys: HTTP fetch error 7: couldn't connect: Success
gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.
gpg: Total number processed: 0
plug:~#
things don't work so well even though
Code:
plug:~# ping pgpkeys.mit.edu
PING CRYPTONOMICON.mit.edu (18.9.60.141) 56(84) bytes of data.

s
64 bytes from CRYPTONOMICON.MIT.EDU (18.9.60.141): icmp_seq=6 ttl=50 time=96.3 m

^C
would suggest that resolve seems to be working fine.

any ideas?
