Newbie having trouble finding my hard drive (USB hub + iomega)

Hi,

I have read a bit about hard drives and scsi and I used

root@debian:~# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:
root@debian:~#

My sheeva plug has the original linux from vendor GlobalScale Technologies.

My hard drive is a Iomega Prestige 500 GB hard drive.

I think I need usbfs driver or subsystem, as another usb memory stick is not detected.

Are there any documents how to getting a usb drive running on the base system?

Also I now have seen a message that makes me worry:

Hi,

after some tries I got the drive running. But I needed to unplug my hub and then plug it again.

I have added the wait4usbdisks script mentioned in this forum but it seems not to work.
As my drive spins down very early I think doing a USB power down and up and then a mount -a
in a script instead of only waiting for a drive to be online.

What do I need to power up and down the USB bus?

Can I use dbus commands for that?

Any comments?
