Audio Streaming to an Icecast server

Is there anyone that has used the plug to stream audio to an Icecast server? Or, does anyone have any good recommendations on software for ubuntu that can stream audio to Icecast?

I use MPD - Media Player Demon.

I plan to use alsa and ICES2. I need to experiment to see if the PCM->FLAC load is too great for the plug.
