I still have sheeva plug with the oldest kernel and i want to upgrade it... but if i upgrade the kernel on the flash can i still boot my sd without do anything to it??

Simple question simple answer: "yes"
It is
u-boot
dictate which kernel to use, as long as you did not change
u-boot
's environment variables then all should work just fine.

You'd have to install the related /lib/modules for the new kernel onto the SD card.
