I installed Debian Lenny into my Sheevaplug.
I successed to use the USB wireless adapter, WLI-CU-GN( a ver small size one).
Now, I can use the sheevaplug at anywhere if there is the power connector at home .

I have recently picked up the ultra-compact wireless and used
their drivers cross-compiled on x86 where I did a custom kernel.
The drivers compiled after a couple administrative items to use
the same cross-compiler and all appears to work.  However, I
cannot seem to get the ESSID set from iwconfig or using
their configuration file in /etc/Wireless/RT2870RTA/RT2870RTA.dat.

I also left off the compile support for network-manager given
that I do not want to install all the GUI network-manager
support.

Still, it seems on the verge of working, but I do not any error
on syslog or iwconfig when trying to set ESSID.

May I ask what drivers you used, and what you did with the
firmware?

I used the driver 2009_1110_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.1.2.0.tar.bz2 and compiled it on the sheevaplug.
Uboot version is U-Boot-3.4.27

please do:
$ sudo insmod rt3070sta.ko
$ sudo ifconfig ra0 up
$ ifconfig

Can you see ESSID?
