Hi all,
i've two sheevaplug. At the first i've update new custom kernel 2.6.31.6 and all work fine. During last reboot i've a strange problem.
I don't see the serial console connection (Es. /dev/ttyUSB0 or /dev/ttyUSB1).
The sheeva is able to execute full boot (i'm able to do login from ssh shell), but on my workstation Linux machine i'm not able to go into serial console....and it it bad Cry.
The second sheevaplug instead work fine (i'm able to connect it via serial console).
What is the problem? I've an hardware problem?

Please help me.

Regards

Hi,

Most times, (but not all), problems with connecting to the serial console via the miniature USB connector next to the SD card slot, are due to the Min USB plug NOT making proper connection to the socket.

If you remove the USB plug and look at the empty socket showing through the cut-out in the case, you may find the socket is not 100% showing in the cut out.

When I took my Sheeva plug apart, I found that the miniature connector had not been soldered onto the PCB at a right angle, it was at an acute angle , thus not fitting the cut-out properly.

Using a needle file, it only took a few minutes to enlarge the cut-out, so the full socket was visible, and on reassembly the plug fitted to the full depth and made a good connection

WARNING   I gather new Plugs are now fitted with an anti open sticker. Opening the case will therefore void your warranty.

In this case people have reported that finding a USB cable and plug with a longer tongue, sometimes fixes the problem.

YMMV

regards

P
