1  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Boycott Global Scale Technologies on: October 09, 2009, 10:22:39 AM
As mentioned in another post, I'm not too happy about the fact they limit shipping options for overseas users to Fedex.

However, I'm otherwise very satisfied with GlobalScape: they've been very reactive and I have to say the way they package the SheevaPlug is impressively luxurious (I just love the magnet-closing little box).

Most of small electronic hardware packed in that way from China Manufacture. So, it's nothing special for Global Scale. Despite all logistic problem, I still think SheevaPlug is a very good product for power linux users. The debugging JTAG interface let you have full control of system without need to worry about any physical modification.

thank you so much  Wink so now i've only to wait

I wait for 4 weeks before I got my plug (Ordered on early of July and got it on mid Aug). I highly recommend to give them a call which might help instead of just waiting for e-mail response.

3  General Category / Application ideas and development Q/A / Re: --* VLC Transcode On Debian *-- on: October 02, 2009, 09:01:12 AM
This is what I had to do to get the right encoders to transcode.

http://plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=721.0

the necessary encoders apparently are not included in the standard packages in the repository due to licensing issues, and the distribution for the ARM platform doesn't yet include the unstripped codec library.

Henry

Henry,

Thanks for your suggestion. I download the ffmeg source and simply run the ./configure --enable-share --prefix=/usr and follow by the make ; make install. Will this compile all encoders or I should put more options onto the ./configure?

Thanks
4  General Category / Success stories / Re: Using the plug as a full PC with an external display (usb2vga) on: October 01, 2009, 08:41:54 PM
I got my usb2vga adapter working with the plug, here's a video of it all working:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xClCWZ9Nv0A

sheevaplug+sdcard+usb2vga adapter+keyboard+mouse.

I had to recompile the kernel to add support for the sisusb driver.  Then installed xorg + gnome + firefox and added the appropriate entries to xorg.conf.  It's not the speediest PC in the world, but it's definitely usable.  Would work well for email+web browsing.

I'm using the StarTech.com USB 2.0 to VGA Dual Display Adapter, but any usb2vga adapter which uses the sisusb driver would work.  Price for the adapter is around $60-$80.

Wah, very cool.

Which linux distribution your running? Do you have to compile the driver for the usb2vga adapter or it comes with binary driver?

Thanks
5  General Category / General Discussion / --* Ubuntu Network Installation *-- on: October 01, 2009, 08:33:30 PM

Hi,

I have following following article on the wiki and try to install the Ubuntu  Jaunty from network onto the SD card.
http://www.openplug.org/plugwiki/index.php/Ubuntu_Jaunty_9.04_Network_Install

The installer fire up without problem and I follow the step in wiki to finish the installation without much problem except to ignore some abnormal pointed out in the wiki:

    *  Lack of kernel module - choose to continue without those
    * Questions on md kernel module - continue installation without those. If you need LVM and RAID stack then rebuild the kernel with those modules.
    * At the end of the base installation, you will be asked that there is no kernel to install - click continue on that too.

After the installation, I try to boot Ubuntu from the SD but fail. I mount the SD card in other linux machine and found that there is no uImage and initrd insalled in the /boot directory. Anyone know how to solve it?

Thanks.

6  General Category / Application ideas and development Q/A / --* VLC Transcode On Debian *-- on: October 01, 2009, 08:22:12 PM

I have installed Debian Lenny on the compact flash. The VLC package is installed and I can stream video/audio without problem.

Recently, I want to transcode a rstp stream into another format. I discovered that the ffmpeg's libavcodec is compiled with options disabled almost all encoding functions. Anyone know where I can get a ffmpeg libavcodec with full encoding function for debian?

Thanks for your help in advance.
