31  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Globalscale order process - CAVEAT EMPTOR on: September 01, 2010, 06:02:28 AM
you have to wait a couple weeks extra before the plugs are shipped from GlobalScale to NewIT.

Just to point out that normally all our products are available off the shelf, but due to a couple of large orders on the SheevaPlugs we were out of stock for a couple of weeks. Normal Delays (as for everyone) on the GuruPlugs  Sad

This Post is really for New IT customers who do not read our forum.

We have received the following announcement from Globalscale, it is also shown on their website here: http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/news.aspx

7/17/2010 Guru Plug Server - Professional Upgrade Kit

First of all, we wish to thank our loyal customers who have been very patient and stood by us while we were resolving the “Heat Problem” with the GuruPlug Server Plus!

Further to our announcement about a week ago, we are pleased to advise of the permanent solution to the problem. In the coming weeks (not months), we will be releasing the simple to install “Professional Upgrade Kit”. Part of this kit includes a micro fan with wire harness.  This fan will not only dissipates the heat being generated by the CPU, but also brings the GuruPlug Server Plus back in line with its original specifications. Therefore, those of you who bought the Plug specifically to run 2 x 1Gb ethernet will be able to do so freely and without limitations.

The “Professional Upgrade Kit” together with full instructions, will be provided free of charge on request to all existing users of the GuruPlug Server Plus, but there will be a nominal shipping and handling charge . We will be issuing instructions shortly on how to obtain a kit.

Those of you who receive units from shipments starting in August 2010, will have the kit already installed and you will be able to run all applications to the fullest from the get go.

We apologize for not making this announcement sooner, but we wanted to do our “due diligence” and carry out exhaustive field and thermal tests to ensure you will be receiving  a quality and robust product which captures the “always on eco friendly” philosophy of the “Plug Computer”.

Thank-you once again for your encouraging support while we were dealing with this problem, and we hope you will  check our web-site regularly for details on more new and exciting products that will be introduced in the coming months.

What this means to our customers.

•   For those of you that are still waiting for your pre ordered GuruPlug Server Plus, we have asked that the New IT order be held back to have this upgrade kit fitted before being despatched.  This does however mean another delay, but we feel it is worth it to have a fully functioning product, as soon as we get a proper estimation on the delivery we will of course contact you to advice.

•   For those of you that already have your GuruPlug Server Plus, we are talking to Globalscale about how the distribution of this “Professional upgrade kit” will be handled. We of course have all our GuruPlug Server Plus customers’ details and will contact you again as soon as we have an update on this.

I would like to say many thanks for your patience, and kind comments on how we have handled this situation so far, the end is in sight.

We have to charge VAT on all orders delivered within the EU, unless you are a  VAT registered business, that is not in the UK but is in the EU - then you can apply for a VAT Exempt account on our shop, see here: http://www.newit.co.uk/?id=18

We also now sell to customers outside the EU, VAT free (bit of a headache on the paperwork side), this is displayed when you entrer the country of delivery into the shopping cart.

We have been told that these PSU's are  from a new supplier and they have used better components in them.

NO WiF or BT or ULP-Radio inside the gplugD --> too much heat --> External USB dongle for WiFi-802.11b/g/n based on 88W8786U

The GuruPlug Display - DevKit is mainly for developers.

So a bit of a change from the advertised product http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/c-4-guruplugs.aspx
"GuruPlug Display serves up your video, pictures and audio in High Definition with integrated HDMI port, Your LCD TV will become PC instantly by adding GuruPlug Display. It’s perfect for Digital Signage, Media Center Display, Handheld Device screen Mirror, --- Limitless applications."

So do you recommend that this is not suitable for end user use at this time?

Wouldn't I need to modify it to work in the US, though?

No you would not, we stock the US power version of the Black eSATA units.

I got mine today.  There was no CD inside.  I was hoping for documentation.  Did anyone get a CD with theirs?

Globalscale are no longer supplying CD's you have to get the software and documentation from here: http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/t-downloads.aspx
But at the moment the Guru's are showing as "coming soon" - not soon enough eh!
43  Linux Stuff / Linux distributions / Re: Guruplug: Which distribution is/will be shipped? on: April 22, 2010, 11:32:18 PM
We received a delivery update from Globalscale last night, this tells us that our shipment will be leaving China next week; this is sent over to Hong Kong then onto the UK by air. With previous orders once we are informed that the shipment has left China it normally takes about 7 days to get to us. But as I am sure most of us are aware of the disruption the volcano has caused the airlines, there maybe a small delay whilst they are clearing the backlog of freight being sent by air.
Once we have confirmation of the flight leaving Hong Kong we can then announce a firm delivery date to ourselves and therefore a despatch date for all orders.

Many thanks for you patience.
