unfortunately from offline conversation between the Debian developer and the Marvell custodian to uBoot, there was not much appetite/availability to fix the code. The one referred to by me on my Archlinux post did the job for me. Otherwise a faster or different SD card may be your fastest bet.

replabrobin: i understand, just wanted confirmation that you had newer kernels working - as the older kernels work fine with the older, marvell u-boot.

tbm: have you approached the denx u-boot marvell maintainer to try to mainline the sd card patch(es)? I had an initial positive response from the maintainer over email yesterday  - would be happy to put you in contact with each other.

sounds hairy, which kernel is that with?

Hi all - and admins in particular: I have a freebsd developer who prepared some FreeBSD8 images for the plug ~ 2x60MB. He noted that the wiki has a 5MB limit, are the admins able to wave this for him or can you permit him to post up to http://www.plugcomputer.org/index.php/us/resources/donwload-section
or can anyone tell me what the procedure is for doing so?
Thanks in advance.

did you get anywhere further with this? i'm also getting occasional read/write failures to a USB stick and problems in u-boot on reboot, but they go  away after a couple of minutes unplugged.

have you tried following this thread? http://plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=1057.msg6489#msg6489

... and according to previous threads specific to this point, Ubuntu 9.10/Karmic Koala is not supported on the Sheevaplug's ARM - but other distributions including Debian and FreeBSD, upon which Ubuntu is based - are.

+1 from me...

I for one am confused as the wiki page at http://plugcomputer.org/plugwiki/index.php/Das_U-boot_plug_support conflicts with other posts suggesting that latest Marvell u-boot is based on latest open u-boot eg: http://plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=444.0

and seemingly open issues such as: http://plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=975.msg6030#msg6030

and the only listed advantage as: "Always in sync with latest u-boot." is not very informative.

and what the difference is between these repositories?:
http://git.marvell.com/?p=u-boot-kw.git;a=summary
and
http://git.denx.de/u-boot/u-boot-marvell.git/?p=u-boot/u-boot-marvell.git;a=summary

Adding a ffsload would be great, as per patch in this thread: http://plugcomputer.org/plugforum/index.php?topic=689.0

awfully alone on this thread... but in case anyone is interested, there is a known arm cache/freebsd problem which is causing this:

Just thought i'd add: i've tried with other larger .gz files and they extract fine, and i tried two different mirrors for the ports.tar.gz
13  General Category / General Discussion / Re: FreeBSD on USB on: December 15, 2009, 05:18:01 PM
After much battling, and courtesy of some recently uploaded patch files, i've got FreeBSD8 working on the plug.
However, upon trying to set up ports using portsnap - which fails consistently but at varying places in the untar, i've now also got errors unzipping the port.tar.gz:
Code:
splug# fetch ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/ports/ports/ports.tar.gz
splug# gunzip ports.tar.gz
gunzip: invalid compressed data--crc error
gunzip: ports.tar.gz: uncompress failed
the same file extracts fine on an i386 machine.
Has anybody got any ideas how to debug this?

I'm glad to hear that fixed your problem.

Thanks for confirming it works.

I guess the "take-away" from this one is to read the wiki/docs carefully and identify at which step you cannot follow the docs any further.

In which case evoke, you should just be able to do:
apt-get update
and then...
apt-get install libapache2-mod-encoding
