As mentioned in another post, I'm not too happy about the fact they limit shipping options for overseas users to Fedex.

However, I'm otherwise very satisfied with GlobalScape: they've been very reactive and I have to say the way they package the SheevaPlug is impressively luxurious (I just love the magnet-closing little box).

For those interested, if you live in Switzerland (which is outside the European Community) it will cost you an additional CHF 27.25.- import duties.

CHF 10.25 for the 7.6% Value-added tax will go to the Swiss Customs (this will actually depend on the exchange rate) and CH 17.- will go to Fedex as "Administrative fee". As for others, the bill came about 10 days after receiving the SheevaPlug

I'd say the main problem for us, overseas user, is that shipping is only limited to Fedex. Had they offered US postal, not only would the shipping fee be much lower than the whopping $40, but the "Administrative fee" would also be lower: CH12.- from what I recall.

Any luck with Skype for Asterisk?

Thanks for your reply.

As the SheevaPlug media center will sit under the TV (next to the PS3 and the router), far away from the PC at the other of the apartment, which is connecting with  802.11n wifi, transferring GBs of data is something of a hassle I'm trying to avoid.

Are there USB DVD-rom drives that are not compatible with the SheevaPlug?
Is there a command-line method or script to easily create and burn DVD images from a given directory?
5  Linux Stuff / General Linux questions / DVD burning? on: September 01, 2009, 09:29:37 PM
I am planning to use a SheevaPlug with a FreeAgent 500GB ext 2.5" HDD as media server and I was wondering if it was possible to hook up an external USB DVD-burner using a USB hub so that from time to time , I could archive my media files on DVD-rom? (I'm aware that those USB drives need an external power supply as the usb port won't be supplying enough juice)
