You can also run debian on your tonidoplug via usb and install tonido embedded on the debian base system. Debian supports the arm processor of the plug.
I saw that Debian was supporting plugs, and could not figure out why Ubuntu (which I run on two desktops at home) had dropped ARM support. I am certainly more familiar with Debian, but Plugbox linux (which ports Arch Linux to ARM) is natively compiled and has validated procedures to get up and running and still have the Tonido apps running. Their procedures would have me running the Tonido apps that are already installed in flash memory. Is there any difference between "Tonido embedded" and the Tonido that runs out of the box on the Tonido plug? -Zach nothing you would miss, there is no automounting of usb devices and the tonidoadmin app is not available

Hi I have a brand spanking new IonicsPlug that I have not cracked open the box yet. I would like to trade it for a TonidoPlug, or worst case sell it. I am in Bayarea!! If this post violates any forum rules, please delete it and excuse my ignorance. Thanks in advance. Oh, I already have another IonicsPlug that works as a SBS server for me, so this additional one is redundant. Once I get a TonidoPlug, I will get SBS on it along w/ all the TonidoApps..... or that's the plan why not buy the embedded tonido license? You can then run the tonido software on your ionicsplug. Been thinking the same. But I have Debian on my IonicsPlug and the embedded license runs on Ubuntu. I think it might work, will try that before jumping fully to Tonido. I run tonido embedded on my sheeva which also runs debian. This works fine.

The one thing i am missing on my plug is a mailserver. I need to be able to retrieve my mail from my isp via pop3 and then make the mail via imap available to my computers. This keeps my mail nicely in sync and i never have to read or throw away mail twice. It also has to be able to work with several emailaccounts, since i have several and my family has several as well. I tried a few times to build one using several packages/programs, but i could not find a tutorial that actually worked in my setup. Yesterday i came across Citadel ( http://www.citadel.org). It is a full mailserver/calander/tasks/notes/contact manager in 1 package, but it can also retrieve mail via pop from an ISP. Cool, that is what i needed. Setup is really easy, but since you are going to install packages you have to run your plug from usb. I run debian on my plug but for ubuntu it should work as well. Go to http://www.citadel.org/doku.php/installation:easyinstall:easyinstall . Make sure you read the prerequisites first: http://www.citadel.org/doku.php/installation:easyinstall:prereq-debian.html . Configuring for users can be done via a webinterface. There is a well documented FAQ on their website.

General Category / General Discussion / Re: External Drive Spin Down?

Hi Trune I am using truehl's SqueezePlug server running on my IonicsPlug. This is a Debian Squeeze, which I believe a variant of Ubuntu. Unluckly, I have not had luck getting this to work. My /etc/fstab: root@squeezeplug:/etc# vi fstab # This file descries how your music-library is connected to the SqueezePlug rootfs / rootfs relatime,rw 0 0 # # Your manual setting start here: # # For USB Fat/Fat32 drive edit the next line: # /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb/music vfat rw,user, auto 0 0 # # For USB NTFS drive edit the next line: /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb/music ntfs-3g defaults,locale=en_US.utf8 0 0 # # For NFS Connection edit the next line: # 192.168.2.100:/raid/data/iTunes_music /mnt/nfs/music nfs defaults 0 0 # # For Samba Client Connection edit the next line: # //192.168.2.10/samba /mnt/samba/music smbfs username=<username>,password=<password> # # Setting from the SqueezePlug script starts here: /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb/music ntfs-3g defaults,locale=en_US.utf8 0 0 ~ "fstab" 19 lines, 722 characters
and my /etc/crontab: */5 * * * * root sh /root/spindown/spindown.sh sda1
What am I missing? I have a 250GB FreeAgent Drive that I am experimenting with. (Once I have this working, Plan to switch to another 1.5TB drive and/or a JBOD) Thanks in advance. Not all external disks support spindown. You should get a western digital, i believe they all spin down. The elements for sure because that's the one i use.

General Category / General Discussion / transcoding flac -> mp3 works!

I don't know how they did it but the guys from Tonido ( www.tonido.com) managed to get transcoding to work on the plug. With the latest version of their software the Tonido Jukebox application supports .flac files ( and other formats) to be transcoded to mp3 and played via the webinterface of Tonido.
