Nope, the U-boot available for the plug doesn't support booting from SD. The upstream version does, but it remains to see if the Sheevaplug will support it as well

Latest U-boot(the one you can download upstream) doesn't support the plug, for now.

The bad blocks thing is normal. I was told it was due to U-boot and the kernel or something. But it doesn't matter, you really don't want to touch the U-boot partition
