1  Linux Stuff / Android for SheevaPlug is Available! / Android Mono Runtime? on: August 03, 2010, 03:17:17 PM
Has anyone tried installing the mono runtime in the sheevaplug android distribution?

I will try it but was wondering if somebody else tried it already.

Hello Guys!

Now you can have Android and start developing server apps.

The installation process is very easy through the ESIA - Enanched SheevaPlug Installer Application

you can download the ESIA here:

Under distros you'll find Plugroid-0_1_0_1.tgz.

Good Luck!

I would like to try this but the project ESIA - Enanched SheevaPlug Installer Application is not in sourceforge anymore Smiley

Is this the same thing as http://sourceforge.net/projects/epia/ ?

for now, i don't think android has support for sheevaplug arm5ve cpu, maybe soon?

I searched based on your comment and I found that some efforts have being done for porting android to arm5vTE (openmoko.org)...  and I think android is moving up as far as the processor requirements so maybe we won't find a port to sheevaplug (unless somebody takes that effort)

Maybe the new "GuruPlug Display" which has a PXA168 will be easy to work with (i think it's a ARM5vTE). The only problem with "plug" is its price compared to the play sheevaplug. Sad

I would like to run android too but i don't know if that's possible.

Here are some efforts of porting android to a ARMv5 from openmoko

Excuse my ignorance. Will it be possible to use Android 1.6 on a sheevaplug? I know sheevaplug does not have a LCD etc. But is it possible to run the base android system?

The reason I asked this is because I own a beagleboard and I have installed android and run some apps in there so it would be useful it the same app can be run on the sheevaplug (apps created in java for android)

My goal is to create some android apps (Java apps without screen interaction obviously) and reuse then in any android os. My current knowledge about sheevaplug and android is not sufficient to even know if that's technically possible so any info will be greatly appreciated.

Never mind, mono is available in the ubuntu repository it just wasn't called "mono".

You can find it by installing mono-2.0-runtime and you should get all the dependencies required to run .net apps on your plug.
The only disappointment so far is there doesn't seem to be an assembler in the repo for use with the ahead of time compilation so that adds a bit of overhead to your app.

Kinda of feels weird writing apps for linux, in windows on a mac.

Pauldy - Very good news to me. This is exactly what I was looking for.

** What ubuntu version did you try this?
If you have a page to show how to install that version will be great. I want to create a document/wiki with all the steps needed for a noob like me to setup/deploy .net programs.

** did you do a 'apt-get mono-2.0-runtime' ?

** do you know how difficult will be to compile mono 2.4 for the plug?

Thanks for your help.
