It would make more sense to use a captcha and not a time out.
The plug wiki definitely needs a captcha.
Can one of the plug wiki admin clean up all the spam pages?  I have spent a lot of time on the plug wiki marking the drugstore spam as spam delete but there is so much of it that the admins really need to run a script to take care of it.

I tried logging into the wiki just now to clean up some pages that have been spammed and get "Login error You have made too many recent attempts on this account's password. Please wait before trying again."

It seems the spam bots have taken over.
If the Wiki admin still has control of it the spam bots need to be black listed on the wiki.
4  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Sheeva Plug is a lousy product on: July 12, 2010, 10:48:49 PM
I would like to add that by following the direction that are packaged with the device, you will brick your SheevaPlug most effectively.  What a piece of junk.  As long as people expect nothing for customer service from this vendor they will get nothing as well.  I really wish this product came with a disclaimer that indicated that it will in no way be support, be expected to work or be friendly in anyway possible.

I for one have followed the instructions that come with the Sheevaplug and they have worked correctly for me.
It is impossible to brick the SheevaPlug via flashing it.  It is always possible to reflash it if you make a mistake.
Hence:
A:)  You are either a troll.
or
B). You need to take basic reading comprehension and literacy classes before attempting to read instructions more complicated than how to tie shoe laces.

And on that point, if all the plugs did not include a power supply then whoever provides them could ship just the computer itself (optionally) with a list of recommended  power supplies that could be picked up quite cheaply in each country... therefor halving the international shipping costs of the computer itself.

But then it would not be a plug computer.  Better that hey fix the thermal problems

DembK50 and thomasb what make you such great authorities on the Sheevaplug?
Dembk50 you admit you have never had one.  You will improve your credibility if you speak about what you have actual experience rather than using hear say.

I have been running a Sheevaplug for over a year with a USB hard drive hanging off of it with no heating problems and no power supply problems.  The Sheevaplug is barely above lukewarm temperature.

Oh by the way there was a recent check in to u-boot for a fix to the way u-boot does reset of PHY chip.  It was not resetting it correctly. I have not applied that yet to see what difference, if any, it makes to the Guruplug temperature wise.

thomasb many electronic products in the USA have very short warranties. It is just one of the facts of life in the USA.

The following appeared on the Global Scale Technologies' web site today  http://www.globalscaletechnologies.com/c-4-guruplugs.aspx

'Note: We are receiving weekly shipments of both GuruPlugs
and SheevaPlugs. However, because of the popularity of
both products deliveries will be around 2-4 weeks from date
of ordering. Please check this site regularly for updates.

Looks like the GuruPlug received its FCC Certification on April 23rd.  The FCC ID is YCJ003GP
see

Does the version of uboot used for the GuruPlug Server Plus support booting the kernel and RFS from an eSata drive? That would be extremely useful for the application I have in mind.

Use eabi .  See http://www.linuxfordevices.com/c/a/Linux-For-Devices-Articles/Why-ARMs-EABI-matters/
11  Hardware and U-Boot firmware / Hardware / Re: MAC address - all for one and one for all on: April 11, 2010, 08:33:19 PM
The MAC address should be on a label on the bottom side of the plug.  Use that value to set the environment variable in u-boot
12  General Category / General Discussion / Re: GuruPlug-Server is available? on: February 22, 2010, 09:26:33 AM
interesting you should mention that, cause I was thinking the same thing..

From my experience with the sheeva plug, i'd be happy if they dropped the nand to around 64g and upped the memory. Im tending not to use the nand for an OS and am just storing kernel/initrd combo's on it (then using those to boot usb or mmc)... mostly cause the uboot sd/usb support i've been having tonnes of trouble with, but so long as you can get to an initrd the linux kernel has no problems addressing sd/usb storage.

If you use the correct commands in uBoot you should be able to boot the kernel and RFS from a USB device, no initrd needed.
There is a lot of information on how to do this both on the CD which comes with the plug and at http://www.openplug.org/plugwiki/index.php/Main_Page
13  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Sheevaplug Documentation --- board layout on: December 06, 2009, 03:45:24 PM
HI,

AFAIK    The only board documents were for the original version of the Plug. The current shipping version  v 1.3 documents only consist of the schematic.

cheers

Patrick

Well, then where to get board sources of original version?
They are on the CD that shipped with the SheevaPlug.  I do not know if they ship the same CD with the later versions of the SheevaPlug.

Shadow,

This forum is mainly for the Sheevaplug and related devices based on the kirkwood SOC.
I think you would find better source of information at a "future design" forum http://www.teamfdi.com/forum/forum_index.html

good luck

Read either

man umask

or

http://www.kernel.org/doc/man-pages/online/pages/man2/umask.2.html

and then read
