GuruPlug Servers have an ESATA port. I don't have an SSD on mine, but the ESATA port works fine.

I finally modified my GuruPlug so it's cool and silent. Way more trouble than it was worth, and it doesn't get quite as cool as I 'd hoped, . The heatsink sits at around 114F, just warm to the touch. I had intended to enclose it with 1" wide strips of something and put a 50mm fan inside but I had a spare heatsink from a Core I3 and it was exactly the right size to fit. 2 4-40 screws hold it to the original heat spreader and I used Silver heatsink goo which keeps the spreader and sink at the same temperature. Now I can finally use it without worry.

The original screws are 0-80 so I put 0-80 studs in the bottom which the spacers screw onto and than the other side is 4-40 because it's easier to work with. The spacers are just over 1" tall plus another .050" where they fit into the cover.

It came out nicer than I'd hoped and not as nice I'd have liked, but it only took one try and it finally works the way it was supposed to..

I now have mine split with the heat spreader and the fan on top of that about where Globalscale put it. There is no apparent heat anywhere. I finally unplugged the fan to see if there was any warmth and there was. I think the heatsink is more than enough if there was any air circulation at all.

I was intending to add a heatsink on top of the spreader but I'm not sure it's necessary if the case stays open.

I opened mine and voided the warranty because I felt the case was way to hot 5 minutes after turning it on.  I don't think the fan will make any real difference other than it makes the ethernet connectors feel cool.

Some one want to tool up a 3/4 inch spacer to separate the halves and make room for a bigger fan that does something?

Having bought one, waited forever to get an uprated one and taken it apart to find out why even with a fan it get's so stinking hot, I'd personally advise you to stay far away. The only way it's going to be reliable in the same case is if they make a 1/2 or 1" spaces to go between the two halves and mount the fan so it does something. All it seems to do now is make the ethernet connector seem cooler. It can't move any air as there's no space around it and the took the heat sink/spreader out so the fan would fit. Taken apart and with the 2 halves side by side and the fan tilted over at 45 degrees so it blows on the processor and it has a chance. It's rather hard to imagine that anyone who worked on the design team has a clue about power dissipation.

Other than that, it's a really cool box. I was going to open it up and put a leftover I5 heat sink on it but there's no where to mount it any more.

So I decided to open it up see if I could improve it and did they really remove the heat spreader when they installed the fan as mine seems to have no heat spreader?

I got mine back and it's been a bit hectic here to get it running right now and while the fan clearly cools off the ethernet jacks, the plastic sides still seem to be way to hot which means the insides are probably still way to hot.

No matter what I've done I've never seen anything come up when using my jtag board with my GuruPlug Server Plus. I use putty set at 115200,8,N,1 and never see a thing.  What am I doing wrong?

I called yesterday and they said mine would ship next Wednesday and I've been waiting since February. Actually I got one in May, but I sent it back because it didn't work.

If you can wait a bit, there will be an updated GuruPlug Server released in July they say. I'm just sending mine back with a promise of the new one as soon as it's available. It's quite different and hopefully all the problems will be gone.

Personally I think the best way would be to replace the cover with a die cast aluminium cover with a few fins that connects to the hottest components. Making it bigger and adding a fan defeats the purpose of the device.

Where did you get the drivers for the jtag board from?  I could not get it to be recognized though I only tried a W7-64 machine.
