Does each plug have a the same MAC address? I've used the command ifconfig -a and I get the same mac address. Will this cause problems long term?

I have a plug running ubuntu 2.6.30.2.

I checked the network connection using ping and it is unable to connect to the internet. I've checked the same internet connection with another identical plug running ubuntu and the connection is working. Any suggestions, perhaps a Ethernet port hardware problem?

I'm currently using the following commands to set the plug clock date & time:

# dpkg-reconfigure tzdata
# ntpdate-debian
# /sbin/hwclock –systohc

I am noticing a drift in the plug clock time once the plug has been disconnected from the network. Any thoughts?
