1  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Update on GuruPlug shipping on: July 08, 2010, 01:54:28 PM
I don't know how they can even think of charging customers extra for the "upgrade" kit to bring the GuruPlug up to the spec that was advertised, especially when some of these customers have waited several months, after having their credit cards charged, before this announcement was made.

I think I will attempt to cancel my order. This is very disappointing and frustrating.
2  Hardware and U-Boot firmware / Hardware / Re: Any update on when the 2ghz plugs are shipping? on: June 27, 2010, 01:54:36 PM
I e-mailed Ionics a while back, and they mentioned May, but here we are in June... and no 2ghz plugs....

I wouldn't hold your breath. Many of us who bought the GuruPlugs (originally to be shipped in March, then April) are still waiting, having been charged on the day we placed the order. I have waited more than 10 weeks since they took payment, and they have not replied to my messages. Conclude what you will about GlobalScale, but I won't be recommending them to my friends.

I ordered 5/8/10, and they charged me the same day.  It's now June 25th and status is still "Not Yet Shipped"

I have waited 10 weeks and sent 4 emails to which they have not replied. They charged me on day 1 of course.

This company seems to be at best utterly incompetent.

There is no such thing as an account to log on...

Actually, there is - they just hide it well. Check the dark border at the bottom of their web pages and you'll see a "Login" link (dark blue on dark grey, so hard to see). If you log in (I can't remember how this worked the first time) that link will be replaced by your name. Click your name and you'll see the status of your order. If you're in the same position as me it just says "Not yet shipped" and has said that for months.

Right now, I'm not pushing for them to ship my GuruPlug since people here have reported some serious problems (overheating, gigabit ethernet causing reboot, power supply failure). There are murmurings that GlobalScale are working on a redesign and will start shipping those out next month. Of course, their shipping estimates are not to be trusted. I'm hoping that when they finally get around to shipping me something it'll be a model that actually works.

I won't be buying from them again, that's for sure. The release of the GuruPlugs has been a complete mess.

Does anyone from GlobalScale read these forums or answer questions on them?

It has now been two months since I ordered a GuruPlug Server Plus and there has been no word from them. GlobalScale were prompt to take payment, but have not been prompt about anything else.

Reading around on the forums it seems the GuruPlugs have some hardware problems (e.g. overheating circuitboards, failing power supplies) and some software problems (e.g. setting ethernet to 1Gbps crashes the computer). So now I find myself in the position of waiting longer than expected for a product that may be broken, having paid months ago.

Does anyone have an informed answer to these questions:

1. Do GlobalScale accept that there are serious problems with some or all of the GuruPlugs that have been shipped out?
2. Are the shipping delays at all related to the hardware and software problems - that is, are GlobalScale doing anything to fix these problems before shipping new GuruPlugs out?
3. Why does the website warn of a 4-week shipping delay when delays seem to be at least twice that?
4. Can GlobalScale offer any assurance that, when we finally receive our GuruPlugs, they will work?
5. What support do GlobalScale promise to customers whose GuruPlugs have he problems mentioned above?

It would be great if some official representative of GlobalScale could get on this thread and answer some of our questions.

Any more on this?
Last time I logged in to GlobalScale, it said my order shipped Fri April 30. (No tracking number of  course). I expect it on or before Fri May 7.

You can log on to their website to check orders? How do you do that? I can't see any option for it.

EDIT: I had a closer look and found it. For anyone else searching, it's in near-invisible dark blue on dark grey near the bottom of the page.

Seems like GlobalScale's website has created quite a bit of confusion. Perhaps they should update it with more accurate information now the design of the GuruPlugs is finalized.

Globalscale only just received Grantee status (needed before you can even file an authorization request) a few days ago (04/18/2010).

And yet they have been selling the SheevaPlug for some time. Did they not go through this process for that one?
9  General Category / General Discussion / Any news on GuruPlug shipping dates? on: April 21, 2010, 11:20:09 AM
We're most of the way through April now - does anyone have any news on when the GuruPlug will start shipping, or what GlobalScale are waiting for?
10  Hardware and U-Boot firmware / Hardware / Newbie question: do I need a JTAG board for the GuruPlug? on: April 16, 2010, 10:26:47 PM
I'd like to get a GuruPlug Server Plus as a hobby project - mainly to see whether I can save some electricity by not running old desktop PCs as a router, DNS, web cache/proxy, NAS, firewall, etc.

I am not familiar with JTAG,  and from the website I can't tell whether I absolutely need to buy the JTAG board to get anywhere with this unit. I guess all I will need is a serial terminal and something with file storage, so I'm planning to use some combination of USB keys, Micro SD cards, USB hard drives etc. Do I need the JTAG board in order to get a terminal connection into the GuruPlug Server Plus? Or can I buy the plug without the JTAG board and still get going?
