1  Linux Stuff / General Linux questions / Sheeva + ubuntu 0.04 mkfs.ubifs not found on: November 30, 2010, 10:48:33 AM
Hi,
I've a Sheeva with an ubuntu 9.04 installed.
I'm trying to make a "NAND (Ubifs) clone tool" using an external Micro SD.

I'm able to succesfully mount the ubifs partition and read it,
now I would like to make an ubifs image using the command mkfs.ubifs, but
it seems that it is not included in the mtd-utils package (that is correctly installed and updated).

Any hints?

Thank you in advance,
  Vor
2  Hardware and U-Boot firmware / Hardware / SheevaPlug memory lifetime in production environment on: November 29, 2010, 11:34:15 AM
Hi,
We would like to use SheevaPlug with a monitoring application in the "real-world" (a java application that reads data through the USB and send it to a remote internet server).
The Sheeva is configured to use internal nand + ubuntu.
We have optimized (minimized) the number of writes of our application but we are still worried about the internal nand lifetime.

What are the "best practices" to minimize the operating system writes and increase the lifetime of the internal NAND? (disable system logs??? disable cron???)

Have you some experiences / tips of sheevaplug devices in production environments?

Thank you in advance,

  Vor.
3  Hardware and U-Boot firmware / U-Boot stuff / difference between orion_nand and orion_mtd on: October 22, 2010, 11:08:00 AM
Hi,
I've just burned kernel 2.6.35.7 using Sheevaplug installer, but I didn't change the lines:

...
# NAND flash partitions. If using kernel >= 2.6.30 then replace orion_nand with orion_mtd
mtdpartitions mtdparts=orion_nand:0x400000@0x100000(uImage),0x1fb00000@0x500000(rootfs)
...

Everything seems ok with orion_nand, but should I change the option to orion_mtd as suggested?

What is the difference between the two?

Are there other uBoot options that should be changed to reflect the new kernel?

Thanks,
  Vorxio

#modprobe ti_usb_3410_5052

Good luck Wink

Thank you!
5  Hardware and U-Boot firmware / U-Boot stuff / orion_nand vs orion_mtd on: April 09, 2010, 07:44:48 AM
I downloaded the latest sheeva plug installer from http://www.openplug.org

I modified the file uboot-nand-custom.txt with the correct MAC address, but I found this misterious line (AND I DIDN'T DON'T CHANGE IT):

# NAND flash partitions. If using kernel >= 2.6.30 then replace orion_nand with orion_mtd
mtdpartitions mtdparts=orion_nand:0x400000@0x100000(uImage),0x1fb00000@0x500000(rootfs)

I tried the install process and now everything seems OK, but  cat /proc/version
gives me:

Linux version 2.6.30.2 (kelly@speedy) (gcc version 4.2.1) #11 PREEMPT Wed Jul 22 19:53:31 MDT 2009

So I'm running 2.6.30.2 with the orion_nand stuff ?!? ...
is it ok? Should I reinstall everything changing the line in uboot-nand-custom.txt?

Thank you in advance,
  M.

6  Linux Stuff / General Linux questions / Sheeva Plug and TUSB3410 device on: April 09, 2010, 02:17:49 AM
Hi,
I connected an external USB device to the Sheeva Plug.
The external device uses a TI USB 3410/5052

Is the tiusb driver natively supported in the Sheeva Plug ?

I think the right kernel module is "usbserial", but modbus -l | grep usbserial returns nothing

When I attach it I find a new "/dev/usbdev1.2", but I don't find any "/dev/ttyUSB0" ?!?

How can I make it working?

Thank you in advance,
  M.
