I had received the GuruPlug Server Plus with the heating issues and now contacted them asking for details regarding the revised product and this is what they send! Sad Sad

1.       For the rebooting issue, we will send you a new inductor and the instruction how to replace it on the main board.  If you are uncomfortable with replacing the “inductor”, you can return the units for repair.

2.       For the heat issue, the problem is directly related to heat generated by the load on the CPU.  Having 2 x 1Gb Ethernets and Wi-Fi running concurrently with other interfaces, causes the CPU to work harder and a lot hotter. We have found the GuruPlug's small enclosure, is not efficient as we would like at heat dissipation, therefore we changed the specification of GuruPlug Sever PLUS version.

The GuruPlug Server “Plus” is designed in its current form for maximum usage with one Gb Ethernet port and one 10/100Mb Ethernet port.  Whilst using the unit in accordance to these parameters will solve the majority of “heat problems”, it is highly recommended as an additional precaution you use 10/100MB speed connections for both Ethernet ports as it will further reduce the high temperatures on the enclosure surface.

As we continue to improve the use and reliability of our product(s), specifications are subject to change.

There may be some advanced users who really need 1Gb speed Ethernet connection for both ports, and we understand the dilemma you may currently face. Please rest assure we have not forgotten your requirements, and in about 3-4 months time we will be releasing a simple to install  “Professional Upgrade Kit“  so you can take advantage of the higher speed connections. In the interim the units will work effectively and the slightly slower speed connection.

Thank-you for your support in purchasing our product and we apologize for the anxiety and inconvenience caused!

Best Regards,

Support 1103

I had a similar query, which are the good eSata Multi Bay enclosures? The ones you listed seems to be very expensive!

I have also modified my GPS+.

I have replaced PSU with external unit, added heat sink and its fan.

Looks good, does the entire thing fit inside the case incl the sink?

How much did the heatsink cost? Can you post pics of your completed setup Smiley

I was checking eBay and saw many USB to RS232 adapters for abour 15-20$. Can any of these used with the Guruplug to get the serial console? If so it will be much cheaper than getting it from Globalscale.

I had called GlobalScale yesterday regarding the rebooting and heating issue and they said they are making a replacement daughter board which would solve the rebooting problem and according to them the temperature of the device is well within regulations. lol

They will be sending the replacement boards within 1-2 weeks and the warranty would be extended. I have asked them to send me all this in writing, will let you guys know if and when they send more details.

Call them! They never replied to my mails too. I placed the order on April 4th and mine was shipped on May 18th.

They maybe on a different time zone than yours, so check the time before you call.

Did anyone get a proper response from Glboalscale regarding the heating issue? I sent a mail to them regarding the constant reboots, they just sent me the RMA form and asked me to fill it and send it back.

What's the point in sending it to them if the replacement also will have the same issue Sad

DembK50 - Is your Plug stable after the modification with both ethernet ports populated with wifi and bluetooth ON?

Read in someother thread that the heating on a Gigabit Network is due to some driver problem? Do you think its possible to rectify the prob without any hardware alterations?
15  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Guruplug shipping! on: May 26, 2010, 02:18:17 AM
I ordered on April 4th, shipped on 18th and delivered yesterday! Smiley

But rebooting issue is there when connected to a Gbit Network. Sad
