1  General Category / General Discussion / Create an image from a running plug? on: April 29, 2009, 10:53:40 AM
I want to create a bin file I can load into another plug to replicate what I have done with my current one.

Anyone have any tips or ideas on how to create a file that I can upload to other plugs?
2  General Category / General Discussion / Re: Samba performance? on: April 29, 2009, 07:48:12 AM
I also am getting near 25 steady and peaks at 30 for long transfers.  SMB performance on this little bugger is spectacular compared to most NAS devices.   I did disable the useless to me password stuff by setting it to share mode instead of user mode.

Also be sure you point the SMB share at the exact mount point of the Drive or you will get incorrect free space reporting.
3  Linux Stuff / General Linux questions / Problems with a USB drive. on: April 29, 2009, 07:11:27 AM
I am trying to do the standard USB drive become a netdrive with samba.  I got samba working perfect. I finally got the vfat drive mounted with the correct permissions.

My problem is that my 360 gig drive is 69% used and is reporting to Windows and OSX that it's got only 260meg free.  How do I fix the correct size to other computers?  in the plug everything looks fine.

What the heck is reporting wrong?  Who has turned their plug into a ethernet drive and stuck with vfat so they dont have to format the drive and make it useless to windows machines?

Linux side sees it right....

root@debian:~# df -h
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
rootfs                507M  244M  264M  49% /
tmpfs                 252M     0  252M   0% /lib/init/rw
varrun                252M  368K  252M   1% /var/run
varlock               252M     0  252M   0% /var/lock
udev                  252M   16K  252M   1% /dev
tmpfs                 252M     0  252M   0% /dev/shm
tmpfs                 252M     0  252M   0% /var/cache/apt
/dev/sda1             233G  160G   73G  69% /media/USB
root@debian:~#

Linux sees it as 73Gig free  yet Samba is reporting 263.2 free

What the heck?
4  General Category / Success stories / Re: Bittorrent anyone ? on: April 28, 2009, 11:54:25 AM
apt-get install rtorrent works perfectly.  I cant get transmission to install that easily.

plus if you configure it, you never need to touch it.   drop your .torrent files in the USB drive and magically the torrents get downloaded to that location.  No features needed.

now if I could get my rc.local to actually run I'd have rtorrent started on boot.

5  General Category / Application ideas and development Q/A / how about Zoneminder? on: April 28, 2009, 11:14:42 AM
Zoneminder is a great security DVR app that blows away all the commercial security dvr's out there.  I wonder if it could be made to run on the plug?

Granted only ip cameras and probably will only be able to handle 4 cameras before it imploded from overloading.
6  Hardware and U-Boot firmware / Hardware / Re: My SheevaPlug is very unstable on: April 28, 2009, 11:12:27 AM

.... and it's a development board.

This exact same hardware is being sold as a commercial product.

PogoPlug.  so I'd not blame it on begin a Dev board when there is a company shipping it as a fully stable product.
7  Linux Stuff / General Linux questions / DHCP and DNS failure on: April 28, 2009, 08:11:26 AM
Just got the Sheevaplug today.  I did the apt-get update and updated everything.  but I cant get DNS resolution to work.

I am running DHCP so it should be getting the DNS server info from DHCP.  it does not.  so I add it in manually to the resolv.conf and it disappears as the file get's overwritten at every lease renewal.

How cant I fix the broken DHCP client to put the DNS server information in correctly?
