@UnaClocker: Thanks. Tried to use screen to run the keyboard input (/dev/stdin) consuming EXE in the background. No success.

@MarkF, Bleupomme: Shiny Devices provides a single key USB "keyboard" (http://shinydevices.com/products/keystroke-diy) allowing a mix of your approaches.
