1  Linux Stuff / General Linux questions / Re: SSH, su, adduser do not work on debian on: February 28, 2010, 07:41:13 PM

I had the same problem - any attempt at logging in with users I've adduser'ed failed. It would actually show the MOTD, and then just exit. The auth.log didn't give any indication of why it logged out.

The same problem affected login, su, ssh, so I doubt any of those were to blame.

I fixed it just now, and I think the only thing I did was to aptitude dist-upgrade, and then reboot. (I've also created the /etc/default/locale file.)

For the record, I'm running 2.6.33-rc2-00003-ge9cfa16.

Hi gang!

I want my to use my SheevaPlug to talk to a weather station that outputs data on a normal serial line (RS232). I know there's some serial HW inside there - the FDT2322D, that's what we all use for a serial console - but should I use that hardware with RS232 devices? Is it just a matter of hooking up a mini-USB to RS232 cable? Will it be too much of an hassle to use the same serial interface for both configuring the Plug and reading weather data from the Plug?

Alternatively - has anyone tried a USB -> Serial dongle on the not-mini-USB port that they can recommend?

Thanks for any suggestions!
